Health skills sharing programme
In October 2006 the First Minister announced Wale's role in the global fight to make poverty history and set out in a framework entitled "Wales for Africa".
In February 2007 the Crisp Report, Global Partnerships for Health made recommendations to the UK government about effective partnership working with organisations in resource poor countries.
These initiatives benefit the strong links built up over 20 years between Wales and Lesotho. Support for staff to work in Lesotho is important as one of the most pressing problems in Lesotho is a lack of human resources.
The need to support recruitment to key posts has resulted in a skill sharing programme. This programme is open to all who feel they have something to offer to their colleagues in Lesotho and includes current NHS Wales employees, retired health care workers and those in training.
Urgent requirements in Lesotho are highlighted by the Lesotho Health Committee and Dolen Cymru oversees the advertisement of posts throughout Wales.

- The Welsh Health Circular (2006/07) requests all Welsh NHS organisations to demonstrate their commitment to overseas links. Visits, secondments, and exchanges are to be recognised as one of the options to be allowed to NHS employees.
